We place great emphasis on the development of I.C.T. literacy for pupils in all year groups. I.C.T. is delivered as a cross-curricular theme. Pupils also have the facility of supervised internet access.
During the past two years the College has made further substantial investment in the development of I.C.T. hardware facilities. We now boast a further three ‘state of the art’ computer suites complementing our existing network.
At Key Stage 3 pupils will have the opportunity to develop basic key-boarding and I.C.T. access skills through block teaching courses. All subject departments incorporate I.C.T. into schemes of work and provide the opportunity for I.C.T. application e.g., in research and in coursework.
At Key Stage 4 the College offers two options to all
pupils:
- Business Communication Systems
- Information Communication Technology (Short Course)
Both courses provide the opportunity for our pupils to develop more advanced skills in application software such as Word, Excel, and Access.
Indeed many of our Year 12 pupils find work experience placements in computer- related businesses.
The Department also offers two Post 16 Courses.
(i) ‘A’ Level (applied) Information Technology, single
award.
(ii) Key Skills Level 2 Certificate Success here gives those boys who decide to remain at the College after Year 12 the platform to advance to third level education. The modular course is similar to University style study, and many of our past pupils have followed this pathway.
