Since the introduction of the subject the department has expanded rapidly
with the opening of a ‘state of the art’ purpose designed
2-room Home Economics suite.
Within the department there is keen interest among the pupils and a
distinct ‘buzz of excitement’ is evident. Pupils are encouraged
to enter cookery competitions at both regional and national level -
some very significant successes have resulted!
At Key Stage 3 Home Economics
is a compulsory subject. The boys have the opportunity to study an introductory
foundation course comprising three main strands;
● Family Life
● Diet and Health
● Choice and Management of Resources
As a result of the ongoing development and demand for the subject, Home Economics is also offered at Key Stage 4.
At this level students can choose to study a vocational City and Guild’s Certificate in Basic Cookery or a GCSE in Home Economics.
