Text Box: this short film. So on our first day we learnt about the different camera angles, talked about the genres of films we liked and watched some horror films for ideas and inspiration.
We were given the general plot of a story, however it was up to us to make it our own. As a group we had to decide how to film it. We all got the opportunity to be behind the camera, and to work on the sound and lighting, we even got the chance to use green screen. Paul and I were worked mainly in front of the camera. As it was a short and cheap movie, we learnt how to use basic props.
We learnt how to make blood that looked authentic. This was useful in the film when I got Text Box: my arm chopped off. Everyone involved agreed that the special effects of gore and blood were the best part of the three days.
It was a great experience being given the chance to work and learn from professionals, to ask questions and learn the tricks and secrets to make a film. It was a very interesting experience for me as I am hoping to get involved in film making in the future; I would love to make a career from it. After the three days were over we each got a copy of the film, it’s definitely one you’ll find in my DVD collection.

Text Box: Recently, Paul McEntee and I took part in the Halloween multi-media school, which took place between 26th-28th October at W5 in the Odyssey. Myself and 28 other students from other schools from across Northern Ireland attended.
The multi-media school, had three different areas for us to choose from: “Multimedia”, Animation” and “Film”. Professionals took us through the filmmaking process step by step and supervised each area. Paul and I chose to work in the film department, there were ten of us in total.
We were told that our goal for the next three days would be to make a horror film. We were told that we would have to direct, produce, edit and star in Text Box: Following the College’s Mallon Cup win last May, Matthew Mackin and his parents were invited to a gala presentation dinner by the competition sponsors, BT, and organisers, the Ulster Colleges’ Council. The event was held at the BBC studios in Belfast and was hosted by Mr. Jerome Quinn, with the Text Box: Guest Speaker being Dr. Aidan Hamill, retired Principal of La Salle and member of Sport NI.
The occasion was a great success with captains from schools throughout Ulster being recognised for their achievements on the Gaelic football and hurling fields last year.
